French Election System since 1789: Consistency v. Change
Abstract
This piece of work briefly lists some features of the evolution of the French electoral system from the end of 18th Century. It highlights the continuities that can be noticed under the various reforms accomplished in such sphere, particularly regarding the voting system (majority formula, single-member districts, multiple round elections). However, these continuities cannot hide the deep changes suffered by the very meaning of the election voting system, especially in a context where the political options of the law-maker are strongly limited by the binding effects of the principle of constitutionality.
