The growing body of knowledge on the political ideas that informed the doctrinal corpus of the Communities shed light conceptually and terminologically on the frequently revisited debate regarding the revolutionary nature of that movement. Using texts from the main theoretical supporters of the Communities as well as documentation establishing their claims, this paper outlines the scope of their demands for reform of the State or form of government, based on participation and equality. Relying not only on ex post interpretations or syntheses, but on the very notions of political regime and political system in the original texts, one may reach a better understanding of the movement as a reformist rather than a revolutionary process.
Salvador Rus Rufino Eduardo Fernández García Copyright (c) 2021 Foro Interno 2021-10-04 2021-10-04 21 3 16 10.5209/foin.78247 The Borromean Knot and Discourse Theory. Proposals for the Analysis of Identities, Phenomena and Sociopolitical Processes https://revistas.ucm.es/index.php/FOIN/article/view/78248
This paper explores innovative uses of the figure of the Borromean knot in lacanian theory with the aim of strengthening social research from a political discourse analysis approach. The first part of this paper: (a) distinguishes three discursive modalities of Borromean knot that intertwine the Real, the Symbolic and the Imaginary at a spatial and temporal level; (b) distinguishes between types of knotting, their extension, intensity and time of structuring and social sedimentation; (c) analyses the dynamic of Borromean (un) knotting of the Real, Symbolic and Imaginary, through imaginary modes of identification in ideological fantasies, deeply dislocating events, and symptoms that symbolize the Real through the significant order. In the second part, several useful analytical strategies for the study of identities, phenomena and sociopolitical processes are proposed and illustrated with examples. In the last part, the epistemological and axiological implications of the use of this lacanian tool to strengthen critical social research from the Political Theory of Discourse are examined.
Hernán Fair Copyright (c) 2021 Foro Interno 2021-10-04 2021-10-04 21 17 32 10.5209/foin.78248 A Critique of Electoral Fundamentalism through the Sortition Mechanism: The Democratic Proposals of Burnheim and Goodwin Seen from a Utopian Perspective https://revistas.ucm.es/index.php/FOIN/article/view/78249
Sortition has for a long time been considered as an important democratizing mechanism in political theory. It was first practiced in Athens in the early 5th century BCE. However, sortition fell into disuse during the development of modern representative democracy, replaced by ballot box elections, a phenomenon which some authors labelled as “electoral fundamentalism”. The objective of this article is to present, compare, and evaluate two so-called utopian proposals for democracy by lottery, offered by John Burnheim and Barbara Goodwin. The task at hand is to analyze their validity and limitations, as well as to consider their potential for improving today’s representative democracies.
Gabriel Camarelles Queralt Copyright (c) 2021 Foro Interno 2021-10-04 2021-10-04 21 33 47 10.5209/foin.78249 Acerca de los autores https://revistas.ucm.es/index.php/FOIN/article/view/78252 Foro Interno Copyright (c) 2021 Foro Interno 2021-10-04 2021-10-04 21 57 57 Carlos Allones Pérez, Liberalismo, nacionalismo, socialismo, feminismo.
