Recepción crítica del cine de acción hongkonés en EE.UU. (1985-1997): estrategias de legitimación artística

Resumen

Durante los años noventa el cine de acción hongkonés despertó el interés de una serie de críticos norteamericanos. Pero se enfrentaban a varios retos que dificultaban su interpretación y valoración, al tratarse de películas procedentes de una cinematografía foránea, vinculados a un género popular y exhibían unas características difíciles de valorar aplicando los criterios habitualmente usados por la crítica cinematográfica occidental. Los críticos cautivados se vieron obligados a buscar estrategias discursivas que les permitieran poner en valor unas películas que encontraban loables, incluso fascinantes, pero resultaban fácilmente desdeñables según los parámetros habituales de la crítica occidental. El presente trabajo presente iluminar cómo se desarrolló este proceso de negociación, exponiendo el tipo de estrategias empleadas y criterios propuestos de cara a la valoración de un cine popular procedente de otro espacio cultural.
