Análisis del discurso público y la toxicidad en X: el caso de la atleta transgénero Lia Thomas

Resumen
La inclusión de atletas transgénero en los deportes ha recibido una gran atención pública, especialmente en casos como el de Lia Thomas, la primera atleta trans en ganar un título de natación de la Asociación Nacional Deportiva Universitaria (NCAA) en Estados Unidos. Este estudio examina el discurso en X (anteriormente Twitter) sobre la participación de Thomas mediante un análisis de contenido de los tuits más compartidos. Se investiga la prevalencia de la toxicidad y el discurso de odio en los comentarios utilizando herramientas como Google Perspective API y Hatebase, evaluando su rendimiento y fiabilidad en comparación con la clasificación humana realizada por los investigadores. Analizando el tono y contenido de las publicaciones, esta investigación busca comprender el sentimiento público y las implicaciones más amplias de estas discusiones en las redes sociales. Los hallazgos ofrecen información sobre la percepción en línea de los atletas trans, el apoyo u oposición que enfrentan y el papel de las plataformas de redes sociales en la formación de la opinión pública sobre este tema controvertido.

Biografía del autor/a
Profesor titular en la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales y de la Comunicación de la UPV/EHU, donde imparte Redacción Ciberperiodística y Bases teóricas y metodología de la investigación en ciberperiodismo en el Máster de Investigación Social. Ha enseñado otras materias y es autor de libros y más de 40 artículos sobre periodismo en Internet. Dirige el Departamento de Periodismo y codirige el proyecto “Audiencias activas y viralización de mensajes periodísticos”, financiado por el Plan Nacional de I+D+I y el FEDER. También es coautor de un manual de Redacción Ciberperiodística y miembro del grupo de investigación Gureiker.
Investigador predoctoral. Participa en el proyecto IAMEDIA: Impacto de la inteligencia artificial y los algoritmos en los cibermedios, los profesionales y las audiencias. Ha formado parte del proyecto DISARGUE: Detección y Mitigación Basada en la Argumentación de Malas Conductas en Redes Sociales. Es miembro del grupo de investigación Gureiker (UPV/EHU). Su campo de estudio incluye la datificación del periodismo, la inteligencia artificial y la desinformación
Doctora desde 1996, ha sido desde 2003 profesora tanto del Departamento de Comunicación Audiovisual como, desde 2009, del Departamento de Periodismo de la Universidad del País Vasco. Después de trabajar en varias Agencias de Comunicación y en la revista americana New Woman (Nueva York) ha sido coordinadora del Área de Comunicación del Máster de Estudios Feministas y de Género de la Universidad del País Vasco y ha impartido clases en este postgrado desde 2008. Sus estudios en múltiples equipos de investigación siempre han estado orientados hacia el periodismo digital, plataformas sociales, periodismo participativo, audiencias y temas sociales además de los relacionados con el género. Los artículos sobre estos aspectos se pueden ver publicados en revistas con alto índice de impacto.
Doctora en Ciencias de la Información por la UPV/EHU y licenciada en Comunicación Audiovisual. Es profesora en el grado de Periodismo, en el Máster de Periodismo Multimedia de El Correo y en el Máster de Comunicación Multimedia de EITB. Vicedecana de Comunicación y Relaciones Externas de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales y de la Comunicación, ha participado en 15 proyectos de investigación y publicado una veintena de artículos en revistas indexadas. Miembro del proyecto “Noticias, redes y usuarios en el sistema híbrido de medios” y del grupo Gureiker. Ha trabajado como redactora y coordinadora en ETB y Bilbovisión, donde también fue reportera, locutora y presentadora de programas de entretenimiento y cultura.
