The Olbanski Language (Slang of Padonki Used on the Internet)

Abstract

This article analyzes the peculiarities of the slang of the young Russian people (olbanski iazik) used on the Internet, being the most important characteristic the deliberate flouting of the orthographic rules. Our study shows the communicative strategies that underlie the use of this slang, which enables us to be acquainted with the pragmatics of this type of discourse and explains its value as a current social phenomenon.
