Abstract

This article studies the panel in the Museo del Prado entitled The Seven Liberal Arts, painted by the painter Giovanni dal Ponte in Florence around 1435. It is conceived as a milestone in the Gothic representation of the Liberal Arts in its passage to the Renaissance. Both the figures of the arts themselves and the representations of the ancient sages that are usually associated with them are taken into account.
