Analysis of Socio-climatic Vulnerability in Andalusia: A Perspective for Preventive Action in Social Work.

Keywords: socioclimatic vulnerability, social work, principal component analysis, climate change, prevention

Abstract

The development of future scenario methodologies is essential to reinforce the preventive function in social work in view of the increase in natural disasters linked to climate change. This study analyzes the evolution of socio-climatic vulnerability in Andalusia through the combination of a social vulnerability index with regional climate predictions from the IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report. The research was based on a quantitative and territorial approach, integrating the analysis of social indicators with climate variables and their territorial representation through geographic information systems (GIS) to identify priority areas for intervention. The results show a widespread worsening of socio-climatic vulnerability in the coming decades, with particular intensity in the northeastern regions of Andalusia, where the most unfavourable evolution is predicted. Rurality is also a key factor in the intensification of vulnerability, due to a combination of greater socioeconomic limitations and increasing climate exposure. In conclusion, the incorporation of predictive methods and territorial assessment tools into social work can guide the planning of resources, anticipate impacts and strengthen community resilience, contributing to the reduction of social risks and to a more equitable territorial adaptation.
