Argentina in the 21st Century: Labor Relations and the Breakdown of the Employment Regime
Abstract
The article analyzes the transformation of the labor relations regime in contemporary Argentina following the reforms implemented since December 2023, with particular attention to the Ley Bases and its complementary regulations. The paper details the regulatory changes across five strategic areas (probationary period, interference in collective bargaining, severance pay regime, weakening of the primacy of reality, new forms of employment contracts, and proposed pension system reforms). It concludes that these reforms represent a turning point in the structure of Argentina’s labor market, producing regressive effects on employment stability and social protection, and highlighting the need to maintain a critical perspective that links economic development with decent and equitable work
