Descripción e interpretación de los afloramientos delCarbonífero Inferior en las proximidades de Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo (Córdoba,España)

Abstract

Some limestone outcrops located in the San Antonio-La Juliana Unit near the town of Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo have been studied. These limestones are close to the thrust of such unit on the Westphalian rocks of the Peñarroya-Belmez-l3spiel Basin. Detailled map of the area (1:10.000) proved that limestones are isolated outcrops, affected by the vicinity of the trhust. Three stratigraphic sections have been studied; we also revised sorne outcrops previously described by other authors in the same area. These sections are described in detail; they are regarded as developed in a shallow platform, from supratidal to external platform. The foraminifera assemblages belong to the Zones 14, ¡5 and 16 (upper Viséan). Considering that the age of the San Antonio-La Juliana Unit is Serpukhovian, and that the limestone outcrops are included in this unit, we have interpreted the limestones as olistolites.
