Abstract

Decennatherium was stablisbed by CRUSAFONT (1952), xvho placed it in thc Giraffinae subfamily, on the basis of dental and postcranial elements. CRUSAFONT (1961) in the PIVETEAU Trailé de Faleonto/ogie figured a Decennatf-zeriurn skull of Matillas locality, but it was not described. In this paper the Matillas skull has been studied. Tbe presence of two heavy, conical, forward-projecting ossicones aboye 1w orbits is characteristie of Decennatl-zeriunz skull and eoniirm the close relationship with the Sivatheíiinae subfamily. * Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, C.S.I.C., José Gutiérrez Abascal, 2, 28006-Madrid.
