Abstract

Based on the discovery of a peculiar type of containment vessel for perfumes and ointments inside a new tomb in the territory of Arados/Amrit, we can observe the increase of the use of this type of vessel for cremation and inhumation during the first millennium BC in the Mediterranean basin. We have developed a series of analyses and interpretations concerning the distribution, timing, meaning, and social use of these vessels, with the intention of establishing a chronology of their use in the cultural and social context within the funerary ritual and in the use of certain raw materials for the manufacture of these vessels.
