Discourse biomarkers in clinical reports using the R programming language to detect patterns of discourse organisation
Abstract
Language and health is a hot topic today, with AI and healthcare emerging as one of the major contemporary challenges. For this reason, the Community of Madrid’s Innovatrad project (PHS-2024/PH-HUM-52) is dedicated to researching Human-AI interaction in real-time speech generation, interpretation and translation. Within the framework of this project, the aims of this article are: to extract the most significant medical data on which the structure of the template for discharge and emergency clinical reports is based; to generate discourse biomarkers by categorising and prioritising the extracted data; to compare the discourse biomarkers obtained and assess the possibility, including the advisability, of developing a single organisational pattern for biomedical discourse for both types of reports or two distinct patterns for each type of report. To achieve these aims, a methodology based on R programming language will be followed. For this experiment, the HUMADEX/spanish_medical_ner model has been chosen, which is specifically trained for medical text in Spanish.
