Imperial, Catholic and modern. The image of Spain at the Ibero-American Exhibition in Seville in 1929
Abstract
This article analyzes the image of the idea of Spain designed by the government of Primo de Rivera for the Ibero-American Exhibition in Seville in 1929. For this purpose, the paper is founded on an extensive corpus, made up of iconographic representations (posters, postcards, photographs, etc.), as well as descriptions of the major performances that took place in the exhibition site and in its surrounding areas. The objective of the paper is to show the effectiveness with which this cultural artifact of politics translated symbolically the structural principles of the concept of nation built by the Primo de Ribera’s dictatorship.
