"One-eyed, lame, hunchbacked women". Literature and disability in Pirandello's short stories
Abstract
This article aims to analyze Pirandello's Novelle per un anno focusing on the representation of disability. The gallery of characters with a physical disadvantage or cognitive delay present in the volume suggests that Pirandello interprets an instance of greater realism compared to modernist narrative, just as the adoption of narrative techniques borrowed from Verga seems to operate in the direction of a revival of Verismo.
