Abstract

This paper provides a new etymology for Greek οὐδών ‘a kind of felt-shoe’. It argues that the Proto-Indo-European verb *h1au̯dh(h1)- ‘to put on footwear’ provides a formally and semantically fitting origin, if it was a loanword from Luwian, thereby confirming the antique opinion that this word in Cilician.
