Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to show the importance of the Aquinas’s commentary to the Chapter XII, 7 of the Aristotle’s Metaphysics. Aristotle describes the notion of universal order, by a certain doctrine of participation. In this chapter appears the term συστοιχία, which is usually translated as the Pythagorean «series of opposites». In his commentary, Thomas Aquinas translates συστοιχία as coelementatio, which seems to affirm the meaning of an ordered theological series.
