A Brief Appraisal on Editions of Rubén Darío

Abstract

The daunting size and at times the dispersion of Darío’s literary production lead to problems in the organisation of an edition of his Complete Works; nevertheless, this does not mean that the four existing editions which boast this title lack precision, as can be seen in recent editions of books like España contemporánea and Tierras solares which use them as primary sources. Despite their importance, however, there is a need for a truly philological edition of the Nicaraguan’s complete works, based on rigorously prepared editions of individual books and relying on the collaboration of specialists in Darío so as to be able to offer an edition that can be considered as complete as possible.
